Insert Input mode (Catalina 10. 15.4)

in Insert Input mode, if I exceed the number of bars set, museScore freezes and I have to restart losing what I have already done.

Insert mode creates additional beats in the bar, resulting in one very long bar. How does this compute with "exceed the number of bars set"?
