MultiPercussion Parts

• Mar 1, 2016 - 13:20

In concert band and marching band writing, multi percussion parts are essential. Adding this will allow MuseScore to compete with big name programs. This involves allowing the composer to jump between multiple parts (e.g. Percussion 1: Timpani, Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Suspended Cymbal ect.) and hear the audio. Adding this one feature will allow MuseScore to be used in many professional settings.

My answer:

You can already write this type of part using either a custom drumset definition or the Instrument change from the Text palette, and get playback to work too. At least, this all works perfectly for switching among different unpitched instruments, or different pitched instruments. You can't use these methods to switch between pitched and unpitched. But still, it is easy enough to achieve this effect by having separate staves then using Hide Empty Staves to either making them look like one, or notate everything on one staff but use the second for playback.
