Need Feedback

• Mar 8, 2016 - 22:31

I've been learning how to compose for several months now, but I'm only starting to get "decent" at it. I don't know where else to go for feedback on what I've written--mainly because I can never seem to finish a piece--so I'm turning here with my first "official" work (which is still open to revision).

You should be able to get to the piece from my profile. Anything constructive will be appreciated, and I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Well, you do have a composer potential. (As opposed to the guy who wrote https://musescore.org/en/node/95276. You actually know your theory really well. I actually find your song interesting. Well, the only feedback I will give is simply this, you need to practice since practice makes perfect.

Tonally very good. Structure-wise, try layering it a bit more with some instruments playing long notes whilst others are playing runs of short notes. You are not wrong, though - have a look at Mahler's 5th Symphony, for instance, where it starts off with pretty much everyone playing the same duration of notes but then it diversifies once the listener gets drawn into the sound and rhythm of the piece. In other words; introduce a bit of variety but no need to go mad with it.

I think you probably have a very good idea of what sounds good and what you want to write but just need practice with MuseScore to allow you to put down on paper what is already in your head. Your work is exactly the sort of thing I like to see in "Made with Musescore" as opposed to someone just badly converting a MIDI file or copying someone else's work.

I hope you take this as constructive; from someone who has played for a few years and dabbled with writing but whose efforts are more often abandoned - like jokes without a punchline.
