Grouping repeating eigth-notes to half-notes with slash

Hello,

Is there a way to save space in my score by replacing a sequence of identical eigth-notes with a half-note (or other longer values) cut by a slash? This is a very common practice in written music.

I attach an example. I want to write the notes as the first bar in this snip instead of the second one.
