My question is if I upgrade or down load version 1.0 will I lose any of the scores I have created with the older version?

If you're asking if files you created with 0.9.6.3 will open in 1.0, the answer is yes. All versions of MuseScore should be backwards compatible, and your files should open in 1.0 with no problems.
