Importing Score Writer and Overture files

• May 1, 2011 - 03:04

Since Score Writer is essentially a subset of Overture, the file formats are very similar (or more likely identical?) - a minor change would allow Musescore to import Score Writer files.
I have tried renaming some Score Writer files, file extension .scw, with the Overture file extension .ove
Then Musescore will open these files, typically with no errors or only a few superficial errors. In particular, sometimes slurs from the original Score Writer file are not imported correctly.
Mostly, these errors are very easily corrected after a few moments work [I should, perhaps, qualify this by saying that I am normally working with rather simple scores of up to 3 staves so I cannot comment on behaviour with complex scores].

I suggest that Musescore should recognise the file extension .scw and should process it as equivalent to .ove
[Notes:
1. I am using Score Writer for Windows Version 4.1.0
2. I have posted a very similar comment to a topic in the 'Support & bug reports forum. I apologise if this duplication is regarded as undesirable crossposting.]

I'm the maintainer of Overture file importer.
I install and run Score Writer 4.1.0 demo, it looks really similar to Overture, and I can't quite understand their difference so far.
I made a small example file by Score Writer and it indeed has similar structure and same music content compared with file made with Overture. And ove file contains more data (not related to music so it doesn't matter).

If there is a test suite for Score Writer like this, then this work can be easier.

About slur problem, I'm not sure whether or not it also include in ove importer. Please simplify your scw file just containing the slur you mentioned, and post it here, then I can take a look.
For other problems, please also post the correspond test files.

Similar issue with .scw files from Scorewriter version 1.01, when I open the file nothing happens.
What can I do to convert old files like this? I tried renaming the extension to .ove, but the same nothingness.
Thanks.

Can you try to open & save this scw file with latest version of Score Writer or Overture, eg Overture 4 ?
I can't support those old version file, because I don't have any old version Score Writer or Overture, my import support Overture 3 & 4.
