SATB sound

• Apr 30, 2016 - 06:52

I was composing something for SATB and the sopranos don't hit the high A as clearly or in tune as i would want.
Is this a problem with the system or is it meant to be a feature to be more "natural"?

Getting sopranos to sing in tune is often a problem in real life :)

However, frankly the choir samples in the default soundfont suck badly. I suggest you use another instrument.

When composing for SATB in open score I usually use Oboe for Sopranos, Cor Anglais for Altos, Clarinet for Tenors and Bassoon for basses.

The Choir Aah's instrument is on the list for eventual replacement, but finding decent choir samples which are suitably licenced for use in an Open Source environment is problematic.

I said you need to combine it with piano sound because it literally only has choir sound on it. I said that because most SATB arrangements have a piano accompaniment.

If you wanted a link, (I'm not sure this is the correct one). I got the Florestan aah choir sound from a site that gave you literally 3GB of soundfonts, it included pretty much every Soundfont in existance (some of which are absolutely useless).
