Playback Transposition?

• May 9, 2016 - 21:21

I've been tinkering around with an arrangement today trying to do something: I essentially want the music to stay in B Minor (two sharps) but have the MIDI playback in Bb Minor (5 flats). The reason for this is because my arrangement calls for tuning all guitars down a semitone to match the original composition's key.

I understand I can simply transpose and change the key signature, but to a guitar player, that would be a sight reading nightmare. When we tune down a semitone, whole tone (or more), we read the music as if it was still in concert pitch.

I've tried changing all the guitar's tunings in Staff Properties, transposing the music down and then the guitars back up, changing the concert pitch (A440), but nothing seems to be working.

Is there anyway to do this?

Only after entering all the notes...

[Ctrl]a to select everything
F8 for Inspector
Click on the Notes tab/button (down near the bottom)
Set Tuning value to -100

I'd say:

1. Start with a regular guitar, with the music in B minor;
2. Go into Staff Properties, set transposition to minor second down;
3. Exit Staff Properties, press [F2];
4. Select all, and use the arrow keys to move everything a half-step up and then down again so as to respell the pitches (the actual "Respell Pitches" command seems to have problems).

Or, first set the transposition and then drag the Bb minor key signature to the staff before entering notes.
