Multiple bar repeats " à la Steve Reich "

• May 16, 2016 - 20:14

Hello ,

I would like to know if it is possible to create special symbols with
MuseScore . For instance if i need to repeat a measure several times " à la Steve Reich " , let
say 20 times, is it possible to write " 20 x " above the return sign instead
of writing a repeat bar 19 times ? And will this number of repeats be played back ?

Up to what extent is one able to create his own symbol library ?

Thanks !

If the symbol is used in published music, chances are you can find it in the Symbols palette (press Z to display). And you can create your own custom palette containing symbols from that or other palettes as well as your own custom graphics. See the Handbook under "Custom palette".

You can create any symbol you want as a graphic, place it on your score then [Ctrl]Shift]drag it to custom palette. Naturally, MuseScore can't interpret it (it would take a pretty advanced AI algorithm to identify most graphics). You can, however, easily specify the number of repeats for playback by right-clicking on the measure with the return repeat and adjusting the Repeat Count box.
