multiple error msg "cannot read this score-- your version" is too old
I have upgraded to 2.0.3 on my Windows 10 desktop PC. Many times! However about 50/50 I am getting an error message in little box "Cannot read this score Your version of Musescore is too old Upgrade Now!". Which I have dutifully done, many times! But some scores will download, and others seem to get the error message.
Today I tried to download the score "Love Theme for Nata" for string quartet, by SuperBassSam, which is from July 18, 2013, and got the error message, once again! For several times I followed the little box "Cannot read this score, and did the "Upgrade". But it does not work. What am I doing wrong? Am I supposed to delete all my old musescore files (that would be tragic, 100's of hours of work there)?
I really would love for the 2.0.3 version to work as nicely as the previous one...and to be able to download a new score now and then.

Check the "file association" for mscz-files in Windows 10, that Windows uses the latest version of Musescore.
Does it also happen when you download and save the file, start Musescore and than open the file?

Thanks kuwitt. The problem is that I cannot download scores from Musescore--- the problem does not exist with my old scores that were already on my desktop.
I did check the link ...66001 but that is addressing existing scores.
My problem is when I go on musescore, see something new (to me) that I would like to download. I sign in with my user name, password, all goes fine, then I click "download score" and the little box prevents me, saying that I have to upgrade.
But I already have upgraded (multiple times!!). So it is very frustrating to be told I need to upgrade.
I can still use my old scores. I guess I will just quit trying to download new scores, but that is a shame.

Download the score;
Open the download folder;
Drag (or save) the file on the desktop;
Right-click the File -> Open with (see point 5)

The score will not download. The little box pops up saying "upgrade".
Interestingly, I am able to download this score, "Anne's Theme" without problem:

What is different between "Anne's Theme" and "Love Theme from Nata", that one will download, yet the other will not?
I just tried BOTH, right now, and the same results.

Double-click on Cinema Paradiso: 1.3 can not open, right click or drag on the MuseScore 2.0.3 window

@cherylz, as you can see (maybe not good) in the previous image, on this PC 1.3 / 2.0.3 and Nightly coexist peacefully .
If Windows has associated the double-click with the previous version (1.3) you have to use the right button and select the desired progam (point 5) by choosing between 1.3 and 2.0.3 or follow the kuwitt's advice.
p.s.: You have to download (save in the download folder) not open with ...

I think there is some confusion. Downloading from musescore.com does not normally involve MuseScore at all - that is something your web browser does all by itself. Assuming you are accessing musescore.com from your web browser, of course. Which web browser are you using when you visit musescore.com? With most web browsers I know, at no time *during* the download would MuseScore be started. Only *after* the downlaod has successfully completed would you then be givne the *option* of opening the file. If you choose to do this, then your browser will try to start MuseScore. If you are seeing a message that your Musescore is too old at that point, that means your browser is trying to open an older version of MuseScore rather than 2.0.3. Meaning, for some reason you have both versions of MuseScore installed on your system, and your operating system is trying to use the wrong one. Probably you should uninstall the older version. But both versions *can* co-exist. You just need to set the "File Associations" to make sure the *new* version of MuseScore is used by default rather than the old.

Hello Marc, thank you for your help in troubleshooting this.
I dont' know how to rest the "file associations" by myself, will have my teenage son help me....
But still, why would I be able to download the one score, and just before or after that, NOT be able to download the other score? Makes no sense.....as I am using the same browser, same PC, same everything, from one minute to the next.... so I should be able to download BOTH scores.
I suspect there is some difference between those 2 scores (just as example scores; I have encountered this several times since upgrading to 2.0.3). Maybe there is also something with my browers, or my PC, or all 3 have some combination of problems.
Essentially, if I CAN download some scores, I should be able to download ALL the scores.

You can download all scores. But you can not open all scores with MuseScore 1. The scores are downloaded—look in your Downloads folder. You just need to open them with MuseScore 2.

Elaborating on Isaac's response:
Again, you *can* download both, and probably have already downloaded both. Your problem is almost certainly that you can *open* one but not the other. And that would presumably be because the two scores were created with different versions of MuseScore, one of which is not compatible with the older version of MuseScore that your operating is trying to force you to use even though you downlaoded the new version.
So while waiting for your son to help, you can open the downlaoded score using 2.0.3 by simply starting that version of MuseScore and opening the file from there (File / Open) rather than trying to get your browser to open it in MuseScore for you.
