extended drum kit notation / creating timpani in 5 line drum stave

• Aug 5, 2011 - 04:13

Hi and thanks in advance,

I am using Musescore version 1.1
Windows 7

I'm writing a piece for drum kit including two timpani. The drummer requested that the timpani be a part of the normal five line drum stave.
1.) I open 'Edit Drumset' and go to the note that I want (corresponding to a four line bass clef with A in bottom space) Pitch 2; Note D-2
2.) Now I input 'notehead' - normal.
3.) Instead of showing the note at D-2 where I want it on the stave, the note appears at middle C (through the top line)
4.) I try other notes and get the same result, the note I create always appears at middle C (through the top line)

Is there a way to control where the new notes I create appear, or am I limited manipulating the presets?

Also, as a separate and unimportant issue, it would be nice if I could assign the timpani notes to their corresponding timp sounds? Is there a way to do this?

For the first request I've had a look on the forums and user guide and couldn't see anything. The second is less important and I haven't had a thorough look in the forums, so feel free to ignore...

Thanks heaps,

Stu

For the graphical aspect, the pitch and note you choose is not important. You could even choose existing instrument and change them. For example, you could use the two congas (63 and 64) and change their "line" properties to display them at the right place in the . I'm not sure I understand where the tympani should appears in the drum staff though.
