Repeats

I can't get any of the general repeat signs to work and repeat barlines don't work after No 2. Is it likely I am missing something simple?

It is a song with 4 verses and choruses plus final chorus. Two of the verses (1 & 4) have additional 'bits'. So the pattern is:
A B C
A C
A C
A D C C1
Maybe it's too complex>
But I can't get any repeats to work properly yet!

Yes I have read those two refs,
Thanks,

If you continue to have problems, please attach the actual score and describe what you are trying to make happen in more detail. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any way using standard musical notation to tell a human musician to do what you have in mind aside from writing it out.

That's a jump pattern that I indeed don't see easily written out for human performers either.
Depending on what your layout requirements are, the closest you could get is probably along these lines:
A B ||: C A :||(3x) D C C1
In which you'll only have to copy the A and C sections once. See attached example, which used the following tricks (also written in the example):

  • Set repeat count in the Measure properties of the measure with the end-repeat to 3 for correct playback:
  • -> Right-click within the measure to access the measure properties from that menu
  • To add the (3x) text anchored to the correct place (at/over the barline):
    1. Make sure to have the advanced palettes open (dropdown at the bottom of the palettes)
    2. Drag a text line from the lines palette onto the last measure before the repeat sign
    3. Right-click the line and open its properties:
      • Clear out the text field of the Begin section
      • As End text, enter (3x), and set the place to "Below", uncheck the Hook box
      • Also press the three-dotted button next to the text field and change the Style dropdown there to staff
    4. In the Inspector, with the line selected:
      • Change the Vertical offset (for example to 1sp)
      • Uncheck the Line Visible box

For what you have now, using DC/Segno's is just making it extremely hard. I can't come up with a way that is still readable for normal humans to give you this playback.

If you have a specific example and issue with DC/Segno/Coda behavior, feel free to open a new topic with your example file. We'll be able to then see what you've done to make things not work (other than making it too complex, that is :) ).

The simplest thing it might be is that you forgot to click the "play repeats" button when doing replay. Second button to the right of the replay button with a repeat sign on it.

At least on my machine the repeat button is off by default.
