MuseScore 2.0.3 app image crashes on Ubuntu 14.04

Hi all,

MuseScore is indeed awesome. I composed my first music in it in minutes.
Could play it, and even change colours of the noteheads. Then I closed the program normally. But, alas, when I want to start it again, MuseScore crashes. Sometimes
before I can do anything, sometimes after I have done some editing.

I really hope that MuseScore has been stunned by my shatterring masterpiece.
But a gnawing doubt persists: Could it be a bug?

Hence this email.

Here are some relevant info:

1. I have read the "Known incompatibilities" section of the handbook. As I can occasionally run MuseScore perfectly, they do not seem to apply.
2. I am running Ubuntu 14.04 (gnome) on a HP netbook (Intel atom processor).
3. MuseScore 2.0.3 (app image downloaded within last week).
4. I run the program from commanline. Every time the program crashes it greets me with a message like this:
   

   $ ./MuseScore-2.0.3-i686.AppImage

5. Following suggestions given for a similar bug report for an earlier version of MuseScore, I disabled the Start Center
   from Preferences (during one of the few sessions that would allow me to get that far).
6. I tried to run MuseScore through gdb. As I step through it I get plenty of error messages like:
   

   Single stepping until exit from function main,
   which has no line number information.
   __GI_getenv (name=0x804d82c "XDG_CACHE_HOME") at getenv.c:35
   35	getenv.c: No such file or directory.
   

   and

   __x86.get_pc_thunk.bx () at ../sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/strcat.S:55
   55	../sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/strcat.S: No such file or directory.
   

   and

   __strlen_ia32 () at ../sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/../../i586/strlen.S:43
   43	../sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/../../i586/strlen.S: No such file or directory.
   

   Indeed, I get one such message for every step. I wonder how can MuseScore occasionally run successfully at all if so many things could not be found! Anyway finally I get to the crash:

   Can anybody please help me to convince myself that it is not a bug...just an devastating effect of my first composition.
