USB MIDI Keyboard Connected, but Note Input Still Does Not Work

• Nov 20, 2016 - 00:06

Hey! I'm a new user of Musescore, and I'm running into a peculiar problem. I read the online instructions on how to connect a midi keyboard to Musescore, and everything working fine. The program recognizes the device, and I can even play the keyboard and hear the notes play through Musescore. But when select a measure, and go into Note Input mode, the sound stops, and it doesn't enter any notes. The device seems to be connected properly, and I even have "Play Notes when Editing" selected, but still nothing happens.

I'm using a cheap AKM 320 connected by usb. Hopefully there's a simple solution to this!

Can you give precise step by step instructions to reproduce the problem? Impossible to say so far if it is something you are doing wrong or some sort of compatibility problem with your hardware / drivers / OS.

I'm having a similar problem with my M-Audio Oxygen 3rd Gen where
1) I get feedback when I'm playing my notes,
2) I select Note Input
3) I click the rest where I want to input my notes
4) One note does play, but when I press more,
5) That note stacks on top, making a chord.
6) Rinse and repeat for any and all subsequent notes.

My best guess is that your keyboard is failing to send a note off message when you release the key, so MuseScore is thinking the notes are all overlapping. Check the documentation for your keybaord to see if there are any options to control this. If not, workaround might be to exit and re-enter note input mode after each note.
