Drum Notation Repeats in one voice

• Jan 8, 2012 - 00:15

I've been using MuseScore for a while now and have enjoyed using it immensely. Until fairly recently, I've only used it for scoring trombone music since I play the trombone. However, I've recently started using MuseScore to reproduce missing parts for works that are out of print. (It's unfortunate that POP happens, especially to great music!) I've had great success and all of my fellow band mates have been very pleased with the results. I especially appreciate the work that has been done by Marc Sabatella to make MuseScore work well for producing Jazz works.

However, I ran into something recently that I can't seem to reproduce. I was working on reproducing a missing drum part for the wonderful Dave Barduhn arrangement of Polka Dots and Moonbeams. In the score, the drum part uses traditional measure repeats. But, occasionally, the drum part adds notes above the measure repeat sign. For instance, the score has brushes swirling on the beat. And, then every so often, it throws in something on the cymbal voice. So, the notation is: written measure of brushes swirling, repeat, repeat, repeat with small notes at top to indicate cymbals.

I can't seem to make MuseScore do this. The measure repeat sign appears to affect all four voices. I thought I had it figured out at one point, but my trick just wound up causing MuseScore to crash.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to do this? Perhaps it's just that I'm still new to drum notation and I don't know the appropriate way to notate this.

Regards,
Andy

I haven't tried using measure repeats in the drum parts, so I don't kniw there is a way to do tgat directly. If I were in your shoes, I'd just use slashses instead of measure repeats, with the indication Simile. But if you definitey want the measure repeat sign, you could always create it as a graphic
