Notes above staff are gray

• Jan 17, 2012 - 06:27

Hi - I've never seen this happen before. I'm entering a single voice and every time I enter a note above high G in the terble clef, it's gray. It does play during the playback. Has anyone else experienced this? I've attached a picture.

Sounds to me as though the "colour notes outside range" has kicked in.

Grey notes indicate notes not usually playable by an amateur.

You can switch it off on the Preferences-Note Entry dialogue.

Yep. Note also that the ranges Musescore considers playable amateur versus professional musicians for each instrument are stored in the same instruments.xml file that lists the instruments themselves, gives their transpositions, clefs, MIDI data, etc. you can override the ranges by right clicking the staff and selecting Staff Properties if you wish to take advantage of the warnings but disagree with the specific ranges they give.
