Cannot insert page breaks Ver 2.0.3 and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

• Nov 28, 2016 - 13:34

Hi,

I am using musescore V2.0.3 Rev. 3c7a69d and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on a laptop with a standard US Keyboard setup.

I have created a simple score with Standard staffs and 4 string common tabs so I can practice a tune on mandolin.

When I added the 13th staff, the program did a page break that left just the title on page one and all the music staffs on page 2.

The last tab staff is under the printable margin on page 2.

I have tried using the drag and drop and select a measure and double click the page break from the palette to insert a page break so I can get some of the music back on page one. This only adds the little page break icon in the top right corner of page 2 but no other changes.

I have also tried adding extra staffs. These show up in common view, but not in page view and it does not force a page break to a third page.

My page setting is A4. If I change the page size to A3, the music all goes to one page under the title.

Is anyone else able to get manual page breaks working with Ubuntu 14.04LTS?

You created a score for 8 mandolins playing *together*. I guess that was not your intention. If you need more measures to write your music, press Ctrl+B or go to Add > Measure > Append measure but do not add more instruments. Find attached a correct score, adding page break should now work.

The Skye Boat Song that I'm familiar with has the eight lines of the lyrics (or eight melodic phrases) played one after the other, in succession. That is, 32 measures played sequentially.

You have written your score for 8 mandolins, each playing a different (four measure) musical phrase simultaneously! Just try playing it back.

So...
Rather than have 8 mandolins each playing one phrase of 4 measures simulataneously, you should create a score for one mandolin playing 32 measures in sequence.
See this attachment (paper size is A4):
Skye.mscz
into which I have pasted your work (except for the last 8 measures).

Also, see:

Thank you to everyone who responded. I realised that error after checking out some of the other peoples uploaded music on this site and hitting the play button on it. I think I have a lot to learn about this software, but it promises to be fun.
I am very appreciative of the quick responses in this forum.
Thank you also Jm6stringer for taking the time to cut and past my effort into a score.
I think I am on track now.
