Simultaneous drum notes offered in different voices

• Feb 7, 2012 - 03:01

I want an 'Acoustic Bass Drum' and 'Snare (Electric)' to happen simultaneously in the same voice. However, the 'Acoustic Bass Drum' is offered in Voice 2.

Although you can input it as Voice 1, should it act the way it does currently?

If you're asking if the default is appropriate,I'd say yes. There are different conventions for how drum set parts can be notated, but the one I see most often and prefer calls for drums and cymbals played the feet to be stems down, drums and cymbals played with the hands stems up. So snare in voice one and bass drum in voice two makes total sense to me.

Thought it might be that.

I have an example which demonstrates this supposed one voice presentation. However, I just noticed there's a multi-voice rest above.

How should I go about this?

If you know you will be wanting to enter your snare drum in voice two like this, I'd do it by editing the drum set (right click the staff, edit drum set) to change the voice of that note. Might as well change any others for which you prefer a different assignment. Not sure if there is a way to just override this for a single voice, but what if you simply enter a different note in the voice you want, then use arrow keys to set it to the drum you want.
