Instrument change

• Dec 6, 2016 - 09:21

Having a closed score SATB score, where the S/A and/or T/B staff occasionally switching to flute or piano, for half a measure or 2.

In 2.0.3 that switch seems to ignore the playable range of the switched to instrument, this bug apparently has been fixed for 3.0.

This however reveales another problem: it is not possible to switch (back) to S/A or T/B, as there is no such 'instrument' in instruments.xml, it just got 'made up' in/for the corresponding templates. In 2.0 you could use just Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass to switch back to and be done with it, as that ignored the ranges, in 3.0 however you now end up with notes being colored because they are out of range, in that switched to 'instrument'.

Could or should this get resolved by adding Alto/Soprano and Tenor/Bass 'instruments' with the proger range settings into instruments.xml?
Any other alternative?

Another issue is that switching between instruments always generates a new entry in the mixer, even if only swtiching between 2 instruments back and forth. That issue exists in 2.0 and 3.0.

As far as the colored notes are concerned when switching between instruments are concerned, the instrument change seems to keep the same playable range as the original instrument. If you were to change from piccolo to contrabassoon, you would get nothing but red notes in the Contrabassoon section. I use this change for illustration purposes. I think if the mid-staff instrument change were meaningful it would be cleared up with that.

As far as the mixer making a new line at every change is concerned, this is annoying.
