Rrrrolls and percussion fFlams.

• Mar 3, 2012 - 02:50

I cannot stress enough, as a percussionist, how crucial snare, cymbal, and mallet rolls are in making music. Snare rolls are a given; too many overtures and marchs contain them for them to be left out. Cymbal rolls bring entire pieces together, without it, everything sounds sectionalized and sudden. Mallet rolls, well, they're still needed in the program for percussion writers like me.
On a side note, I would like flams for the snare, timpani, and other percussion instruments to exist. The closest thing I found was an "acciaccatura", which sounded like and added 8th note. Not a succesive flam.
If there is a choice though, developers, please work on rolls. I know I can't be the only one that wishes this feature.
Thank you for your time!

The standard symbol for rolls are found in the tremolo palette. Perhaps you are talking about playback, not notation? Be aware that playback is not the main purpose of MuseScore. But you can gets rolls to playback if your soundfont supports them. The default soundfont in MuseScore uses GEneral MIDI patches only, and that doesn't include rolls, but other spundfonts are available that do. See, for example, this thread: http://musescore.org/en/node/8223
