Combining notes
I'm notating chant. Where a bunch of words or syllables occur on the same note, is there any way of combining them into one note without losing the lyrics?

Not sure what you mean by "combine", but if you mean you want to replace a bunch of short notes with one long one, just click the first and then select the new desired duration. You'd want to do that *before* entering lyrics, however - and then enter the multiple lyrics using Shift+space to separate words.
Another approach that should well is to make the short notes invisible (select and press "V"), then enter the desired long note in another voice.
You can have more than one sylable or word to a nore by use Ctrl+Space to separate them, or by use a synalepha or elision, see https://musescore.org/en/handbook/lyrics#elision ff.
