Trouble Using Gong Soundfont

• Jan 2, 2017 - 09:00

Hi, Eleas here-

I've downloaded and installed a Gong SoundFont onto MuseScore, but I can't get it to work. I try using the Crash Cymbal for using the Gong SoundFont, but I am unable to select it. When I go to the Mixer, the cymbal has the "Standard" box checked, therefore I am unable to get to it. Unchecking the box and choosing it will get nothing on playback. I want to use an instrument that has a one-line staff, so it looks like a gong staff and sounds like one. I am unable to find a way however to have the gong play on playback for any of the instruments - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Eleas Vrahnos

Ciao Eleas, I am just an end user ...
I'm downloading to explore, if I'll find out what we're talking I'll inform you.
Be patient, we are almost all volunteers, not always in front of the pc;-)

If you mean this:

I believe it is not to be converted. It is the mapping of the drumset.
As an example, take a look here: https://musescore.org/en/node/97976

The downloaded and extract zip file it is only this:

Also, it helps if you attach your score. Normally cymbal staves would *not* have the Standard box checked - they are normally percussion staves, using one of the drumsets built in to the soundfont. I guess your soundfont must not be set up as a drumset? But if you have a staff set to Standard, and the sound dropdown is showing standard sounds, sounds from all your installed soundfonts appear in order, so you may need to scroll to the bottom of the list.

I don't see a cymbal staff. If I add one (Edit / Instruments, select Cymbal from Unpicthed Percussion section), it gets added a a percussion staff. When I go to Mixer, the Drumset box is checked, and the Orchestra Kit sound is selected. This is all as I expect. If your soundfont contains additional percussion sounds configured as a drum kit, then you should see it available for selection in the dropdown list.

So can you describe more precisely what you are doing and where things seem to be going wrong?

That's more a question about your web browser than about MuseScore, but I would assume for most browser you can simply click the link and it will offer to save it somewhere. Probably best to save it to your Styles folder (right next to your Scores folder) becuse that's where the "Load" button defaults in the drumset editor.

Once you have saved the file, just laod it from the drumset editor (eg, right click a drum staff, Edit Drumset, Load).

Well liked I said this all depends on your browser; yours must be configured to try to open files like this by default rather than download them. Probably if you right click or Ctrl+click the link you'll get more options. Something to check with your browser documentation.
