Changing instruments

I think I misread this the first time. if you simply want to change instruments for the whole piece, right click the stave, Staff Properties, Change Instrument, select the new instrument. This changes both the sound and the staff name.

I thought at first you were asking about changing mid-way. Here's what I wrote in response to that:

There probably aren't many human musicians who play both instruments, so it's not really reasonable to ask people to do that - unless you have a specific person in mind who will be the only one to ever play this music.

Instead, what I'm guessing you want is for the violin player to *stop* playing at some point, and around the same place for the flute playing to *start* playing.

The way to do that is to use separate staves - one for the violin, one for the flute. That way each musician gets his/her own part showing when to start and stop. You can use the "Hide empty staves" option in Style / General if you like to prevent both staves from showing in the score if they truly never play at the same time.

I can't seem to find anything that says "staff properties" when I click the instrument I want to change (all that happens is that the instrument name is highlighted).
