Creating divisi within the 1st violins.

• Jan 9, 2017 - 23:05

I have a section of music in which 1st violins are playing divisi over the 2nd violins which are also playing divisi. The whole orchestra is going. When I load the music into the first violins stave, the lower notes automatically go to the second violins which I don't need them too because the 2nd violins will also be busy doing their own thing with divisi. How do I make all the music stay in the respective 1st/2nd violins stave? Thank you. I am new to Musescore and would appreciate any help on this matter.

It sounds to me like the violin parts are each starting on 2 staffs. You have 3 options.

1. Go into instrument and add a staff (not linked!) or another violin to each violin so the notes will end up on the correct staffs. If you add a staff you will have to change the clef.

2. Select the entire second line (at least the parts with music) of violin and switch it to voice 2 by exchanging voices 1 and 2 from the edit|voices menu. Copy voice 2 (use F6 to open the selector and uncheck voice 1) and paste it into the first line.

3. Only if the 2 divisi parts have identical rhythms where there are notes you can select the 2 violin lines and implode them from the edit|tools menu.

If this is not what you need, show and tell us what you are starting with.
