Percussion for 2.0?

• Apr 14, 2012 - 19:50

I'm quite sure this has been asked before, but I can't find the thread/s. Is it a plan for Musescore 2.0 that percussion is able to be slumped together in staves? By this I mean, can I put all my mallet instruments (glock, vibes, chimes, etc.) on one five-lined staff, my snares and basses on one one-lined staff, all my cymbals (sustained, crash, ride, finger, etc.) on one three- to five-lined staff, and my "extra" percussion (wind chimes, etc.) on one five-lined staff?

What is stopping you from doing those things in 1.2? I guess maybe playback of pitched percussion won't use different sounds for different voices in 1.X, but I believe that 2.0 will have support for that. But that's just a playback issue - nothing should prevent you from notating that. And everything else you mention should work for both notation and playback, unless I'm missing something.

As far as I know, it is impossible to notate multiple percussion instruments on the same staff. For example, if I put a gong and a suspended cymbal on one staff, every time I put a note in a percussion staff, MuseScore will jump the note to where it's programmed to put it. I could just use the "Drumset" instrument, but it wouldn't be all the right note heads, etc., and I'd have to change each one individually.

Select a drumset 5 lines instrument, right click on the staff -> Edit drumset. Here you can select your instrument, noteheads etc..., you can save this drumset to apply it again or when you have setup a score with the instruments and drumsets you like you can create a template out of it. If you need to change the number of lines in a staff, right click it -> Staff properties.
