Change the key signature in the middle of a staff
Can I change the key signature in the middle of a staff? I am modulating from A major to E major in the middle of the staff, but when I tried to create key signature on the selected measure it did not work.
Comments
Drag the Emajor key signature from the palette to the measure where you want the key change.
Let go when the bar changes colour.
Hey Presto :)

No, you can only change keys at the beginning of measures, not elsewhere. Typically you would enter any needed accidentals from the middle to the end of the measure, then do the key change in the next measure.
In reply to No, you can only change keys by schepers
Thank you schepers. I am fine now. I wanted to change keys in middle of STAFF (not measure). I appreciate all comments though, because I am learning music - always happy to learn little tips.

Voila! :-) Thanks so much!
Dear yolz
It is not common musical practice to change the key signature in the middle of a measure or bar. To change the key signature at the beginning of a bar or measure, open the palette by clicking on F9 (if it isn't already open), open up the key signatures, and drag the desired key signature to the bar/measure you want.
If, however, you want to change the key signature in the middle of a measure/bar, it is best to use accidentals and start the new key signature at the beginning of the next measure/bar.
If you really, really, really need to change the key signature in the middle of a measure/bar, then I suggest you create two irregular measures of shorter time signatures, then hide the barline between them and the key signature(s). You will need to read up in the handbook/manual about irregular measures and making items invisible.
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
E.

I'm not sure he was asking about changing in the middle of a bar (although someone else asked about that recently) - I interpreted the question as being at the beginning of a bar that just happened to not be the first bar of a system. The answer is indeed drag and drop - just be sure not to drop until the measure highlights.

Thank you Marc Sabatella, you are quite right. The change key was in the middle of a system (not in the middle of a measure). I got it right by holding until the measure highlights.

you create a double bar on the measure that you want to change the key signature on. then you change the key to whatever you want it to be
