Save, Quit & Restart computer loses file?

• Feb 5, 2017 - 23:04

On my completed file I pressed "Save", then "Quit" & Restarted my (Windows 10) computer. When I tried to locate the file again, I only found the originally saved version. Did I lose my file by pressing "Quit" instead of "Close"? How can I recover the final saved version? Thanks.

Did you accidentally press save as? Look in your recent files (under the file menu) and see if there is another copy.

If you pressed "Save" then it is saved. If for some reason you forgot that step, then MuseScore would have warned you when you closed it, regardless of how you closed it.

It is likely you are simply looking in the wrong folder. this might happen if you made a copy of the score at some point, or if you used Save As at some point, or if MuseScore crashed at some point and then asked you to recover your previous version of the file - all of these would create a new copy of the file that is potentially in a different folder.

Without knowing more about what you might have done, best suggestion I have is to use Window's built-in search mechanism to find all MSCZ files modified recently. Be sure to tell it to look *everywhere* - in the case of a recovery after a crash, the default location might not bne anywhere you might otherwise think to look.
