Stave Properties in Guitars

• Jul 8, 2012 - 00:55

There seems to be inconsistencies, but because I'm not a guitarist, can someone help?

1. Create Electric Bass (4 string TAB) score.
2. Right-click bar.
3. 'Stave Properties...'.
4. 'Edit string data...'.
5. 'New String...'.
6. 'OK'.
7. 'OK'.

Result: Fifth string doesn't appear on score.

1. Create Electric Bass score.
2. Right-click bar.
3. 'Stave Properties...'.

Result: 'Number of strings: 4'.

Discussion: Are strings relevant in an instrument showing pitched lines, or is it for perhaps converting back and forth from TAB to pitched lines?

Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (7c8fbda) - Mac 10.7.4.

Comments

As Michael said, number of strings of an instrument and number of lines in a tablature are two rather unrelated things:

There are many case in which the two numbers are different; for instance lutes always use 6-line tablatures but can have any number of strings (actually pairs of strings) from 6 to 14 (older types may have 5 strings); viola da gamba uses a 6-line tablature regardless it has 6 or 7 strings and so on.

So, in MuseScore defining the instrument strings is separate from defining the tablature setup.

User interface could be improved, though (and, yes, there is a known issue with tablature parameter saving).

Thanks,

M.
