Lost files with update

• Aug 12, 2012 - 02:33

Greetings,

I believe this problem may have happened as a result of my not paying attention. I have been working with an older version of MuseScore for a while now and just recently downloaded v 1.2. However, when I went to open one of my older files, I could not find any of them. I checked the folders through windows explorer and could not find any trace of them there, either. When I ran a file search, I was able to find the file names, but it was as though I had deleted them.

Did installing the updated version delete my old files? If so, is it possible to restore them or are they lost forever?

Thanks in advance.

No, installing a new version won't touch any of your existing files. You must have deleted them accidentally. Whether you can get them back or not depends on when/how you deleted them, whether they are still in your recycle bin, whether you run backups, etc.

Thank you for the speedy reply!

Sadly, I did not delete the files, and they were still on my computer before I installed the new version.

Here's some more detail regarding the incident: I tried installing the new version while my old version was still running. I noticed that during the install attempt, an error message showed up, though I'm afraid I can't remember the content of the error message. I do recall it had three options: Abort, Retry, or Ignore. I continually clicked "Retry", but it did not work, so I eventually aborted the attempt, closed the old program, and restarted the install.

The install worked that time, but it was then that I found that all my old files were gone. Nothing in my recycle bin at all. I hope this insight can lead to a solution!

Thanks again for the quick reply.
