Composite instruments

• Aug 16, 2012 - 13:42

I am very new to Musescore so this may have already been asked, and I apologise.

Is it possible to create a single line for multiple instruments (say trumpet, trombone and French horn to act as the brass section) or must the line be entered once then copied multiple times?

Alternatively, is there a multiple instrument feature I have missed, especially for the brass section?

Many thanks in advance.

So long as you realise that those 3 particular instruments all transpose differently.

Trumpet is a Bb instrument
French Horn is usualy in F
Trombone is non transposing (in orchestras)

So you wouldn't be able to give the past directly to the musicians.

Keep in mind that the whole point of MuseScore is to produce written music. Pretending all three instrument can share one staff might be useful for writing music that will never be read by anyone, but if you ever intend anyone to read the music, you'll need it on three separate staves. If you're thinking of MuseScore as just a fancy sequencer for producing MIDI recordings, you'll probably find a number of things strange and frsutrating, so do keep the purpose of MuseScore in mind.

Hopefully, MuseScore will help you with the "dots" then :)

If you can play by ear you're already more than halfway there, and there is a community of musicians here ready to help you when you get stuck with the details.
