Tempo indication vanishes when using "Hide empty staves"
Her's the situation -- I've written a song - in the standard piano-vocal format -- with a two measure introduction before the voice comes in. When I used "Hide empty staves," the tempo indication vanishes and can't be placed on one of the visible staves. Is there a way around this problem?

You could add a normal text on staff 2 to fake the hidden tempo text. Click on a note, Ctrl + T.

As a workaround, yes.
As far as I remember the problem itself has been fixed in 2.0.

Yes, fixed in 2.0 as far as I've seen, which is great. But the problem in 1.X goes way beyond tempo - it affects all system text, voltas, segnos/codas, and anything else that would normally be displayed in the top staff only. Basically, hide empty staves just shouldn't be used on the top staff - either reorder the staves so that the top is never empty, or make sure you've got invisible notes throughout.
