Trying to find Soundfont

• Sep 15, 2012 - 15:38

I found a really great version of the Edward Scissor hands theme on MuseScore.com. When I downloaded it and played with MuseScore on my computer, it didn't sound quite right. Can anyone tell me what Soundfont was used to create this? The link to piece is below.

It doesn't matter what Soundfont the person who created that score was using at the time; all scores played on musescore.com use the default TimGM6mb soundfont - the one that installs automatically with MuseScore. That's what you hear when you hit the "play" button on musescore.com. So if sounds different on your computer, then you have either changed from the default soundfont, or perhaps you have other synthesizer settings (reverb, chorus) that differ from what is used on musescore.com (I am not sure how that works).

BTW, I tried playing it using TimGM6mb on my computer, and it sounds identical to what I hear on musescore.com as far as I can tell. But it sounds much better (as do most scores) using FluidR3_GM!

I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. I'm looking for good Soundfonts and liked what I heard from the one in the piece. I tested it against the ones I have and none of them match.

Again, if you listened to it on musescore.com, it's the default TimGM6mb soundfont. This is the soundfont you hear when you click the link you give then click Play - the same soundfont everyone has installed on their own machines and hears if they haven't specifically changed it to somethinhg else. It's not a particularly good soundfont, and like I said, FluidR3 sounds a ton better, but if you like what you hear on musescore.com, simply going back to the default TimGM6mb soundfont that came with MuseScore will give you that.

Marc,
After reading your latest comment about sound fond FluidR3, I visited that particular website (sf2midi.com) but to my astonishment I have to 'sign up' first to get a free(?) download. I am a little bit allergic to that kind of thing. Is it worth to do this or are there other ways?
Joe.
