Here is how to add... Guitar Chord Symbols (fretboard fingering)

• Jun 7, 2009 - 17:29

Maybe someone else has suggested this as a workaround but here it is....

After you create your leadsheet with MuseScore save it as a graphic file... a jpg, gif, or whatever format you like.

Then open it up in PC Paint or some other bit-map editor, draw your chords, then copy and paste them above the staff as needed.

Here you go step by step...

Create your guitar chord symbols:
- opening a new PC Paint file
- Draw the guitar fretboard grid. (3 or 4 frets)
- Draw a circle and fille it with black
- Copy & paste the blank fretboard to the right of the master fretboard diagram
- Copy & paste the black circles onto the fretboard as required to make your chord
- repeat this process until you have all your standard chords made up
- save the file as Guitar Chords.jpg or whatever

Add the Guitar Chord Symbols to your Lead Sheet:
- Leave the Guitar Chords file open
- Open another instance of PC Paint
- Open the graphic file of the MuseScore lead sheet
- Switch back to the guitar chords file, copy the desired chord
- Switch back to the Lead Sheet and paste the chord in the proper place
- Repeat the process till done
- Save Lead Sheet file
- Convert it to a PDF if you wish or just leave it as a graphic file

- This shounds like a lot of work but once you have your chords made up you can use them over and over in other arrangements.
- The copying and pasting should go faster after you've done a few.
- Remember Alt-Tab will quickly switch you back and forth between the Chord Symbol File and the Lead Sheef Tild.
- This has the additional advantage of giving you total control of the chord fingering.

Hope this helps some of you who want this feature.

Thanks a lot for sharing this interesting work around Mel. In the meantime, we shall keep on trying to attract a developer who can implement frets and tab staffs in MuseScore.
