1.3 files PDF/Shrink to fit

• Mar 31, 2017 - 17:22

I need to print a large operatic score file from its original 1.3 file, as the 2.0.3 fie of it doesn't work.

How can I get a 1.3 file to become a PDF file? under File, it does not have Export PDF as in 2.0.3 .Also why doesn't the Shrink to Fit option on my printer work with 1.3? It works fine always with 2.0.3 The score is too large , has to be shrunk to fit on 8/12 X 11 paper. Is there some command you have to give within 1.3 for shrink? Ive never seen one.

I need more explanation. Don't know what inline png-etc. means under your Save As, etc. Itdo know about scaling. I guess if I tried cutting the scaling way down in page settings, then I should cut the page size down to 8 1/2 X 11 inches. I don't like metric system, I am an American. Thank You Del

I don't know what you mean about "inline png", but the point of the previous post is to show you that the export to PDF functionality in 1.3 was in the Save As dialog. It works just like the current Export dialog. Just do File / Save As, then select PDF as the file type, just as shown in the picture.

As for scaling, that's a question for the manufacturer of your printer. But normally, once you've exported to PDF, the program you use to display PDF files (eg, Adobe Acrobat / Reader) can do the scaling itself. MuseScore does not provide a print scaling option itself - just the options to actually scale the page and staff size in Layout / Page Settings.

OK. I was struck, in going back to the 1.3 file, how much better MS 2+ is than 1.3 to work with, etc.! One example, I like the way 2.0.3 fits the slurs to the notes, jumping up or down as needed most of the time. On fit to page function, there must be something about the programming in 1.3 that my printer won't shrink it. It always will shrink scores in 2.0.3 nicely to standard 8/12 by 11 in.
Anyway, I guess you are saying that i can get the 1.3 shrunk by doing the PDF operations. I'll try it.

Again, there is absolutely nothing 1.3 could possibly have done to a file that would prevent your printer from being able to use a shrink to fit option if it provides one. Presumably you simply aren't doing something correctly in using that option, but since that is an option to your printer and not anything to do with MuseScore, you would have to consult the printer manufacturer for further assistance. Or, again, find someone with Windows experience to help you in person, so he can peruses the dialogs and options within your printer driver and see what is going n. That is just not something we can do from here.

If you export to PDF, then Adobe has its own shrink to fit option and maybe you will have more success getting that to work than you are with the shrink option built in to your printer. But it's also possible you will somehow make the same mistake with Adobe you are with your printer software, so it might not change anything. Hard to say without more information on what exactly you are doing - precise step by step instructions including screenshots of the printer dialog where you are setting the shrink to fit option. While it's *possible* for you to provide that kind of extensive detail and write it all up and attach it all here, again, its much easier for someone standing right next to you to figure it out.
