Combining two separate staves into a single part (for printing)

• May 6, 2017 - 13:06

I'm working on a score for "cobla" (the traditional music ensemble of Catalonia). In the cobla, one of the musicians plays two instruments: the flaviol (similar to a piccolo) and the tamborí (a little percussion instrument). In the main score with all instruments, I have separate staves for each (this allows me to set different instruments in the Mixer for each stave). But when I print the parts for playing (File-->Export Parts), I need both instruments to appear side-by-side on the same page.

Can this be done?

Why do you want them to appear side by side rather than one above the other like in normal music. This makes it much easier for the musician to see which instrument he will be playing at a glance, sine the flaviol should show multiple rests while the tambori is playing and the other way around.

When you extract parts, you can add as many instruments as you like to the part. Rather than clicking New All, click New, type in the part name above the check boxes and then check the boxes next to all the instruments you want included. If you already extracted all parts, you can delete the duplicates and use the arrows to move the new part to the place you want it.

If the song is long and there are very long sections without switching instruments, you can hide empty staves in a part by selecting the part, then using the style->General menu dialog. If the song is fairly short, I wouldn't bother with that.
