Difference in 1/8th stems up and down

• Apr 23, 2013 - 00:16

1.3

Please see attached.

When examined carefully, it becomes apparent that the stems on the 1/8th, 16th etc. notes are in a different aspect to the note head depending on whether they are up or down. When pointed down, the nearest flag touches the note head.

This should be consistent. I prefer the "up" position.

not much point in reporting issues with 1.3, unless they also happen with the latest nightly build, in which case that should be mentioned...
here it does happen in the pretty recent 6d6d73d too. The flags for up stems are not just horizontally mirrored to make flags for down stems, in Emmentaler font. Gonville looks OK though, I think.

There's another problem reported against Emmentaler recently: http://musescore.org/de/node/20835

I am not sure to have understood the point. If I understood correctly, the criticism is about the shape of hooks for up stem notes being different from the shape of hooks for downstem note.

If it is really this, it is not a bug at all: the two shapes should be different; or, at least, it has been so for a couple of centuries at least. As far as I can tell, it is not that Emmentaler is 'wrong' and Gonville is 'right'; Emmentaler respects the traditional engraving styles, Gonville innovates (or deviates from them). Of course, everybody is free to choose what (s)he prefers, but please, please do not make Emmentaler like those 'mushy', 'gummy' or 'sticky' music fonts which abound around!

Thanks,

M.
