Re-arranging menus

• May 16, 2013 - 21:16

Menu items such as 'Synthesiser' and 'Mixer' come under 'View', but I don't think they belong there.

After reviewing all of the ten items in the top section of 'View', I wonder if the following should be moved to a newly-introduced menu called 'Window':

Palette
Master Palette...
Play Panel
Mixer
Synthesiser

These were chosen they are separate from the main window. Palette is detachable, but I'm unsure.

Audacity and MuseScore seem similar in their 'View', but I think QuickTime Player 7 is more in accordance with my proposal.

Should 'View' should be moved to the right of 'Edit' in accordance with other Mac programs?

Would this affect other operating systems?

Using MuseScore 2.0 Nightly Build (92852b7) - Mac 10.7.5.

Some of the programs I regularly use (LibreOffice, GIMP) have both a "View" and a "Window" menu (and, yes, "View" is right after "Edit");
Inkscape only has "View" (which includes some window-related items);
Qt Creator only has "Window" (which includes a "Views" sub-menu).

All of this is under Linux, but I suppose the same programs will have the same menu structure under each supported platforms.

I never bothered to understand what either menu is supposed to contain (in fact, I'm just realizing that I unconsciously felt the duplication annoying) and I'm rather glad to see that the authors of well-known and widely used programmes didn't bother too!

All of this to say that, for what is worth, I do not feel it necessary to multiply the menus for manipulating the various elements of the user interface. But I know my ideas are sometimes peculiar, so with all probability you may safely disregard them!

Cheers,

M.
