MIDI playback to Clavinova via USB doesn't work

• May 25, 2013 - 18:02

Hello

I'm relatively new to music and do not know much about midi. I connect my Clavinova to a Mac via a simple USB cable and can enter notes into GarageBand and play them back to the Clavinova, so the connection seems to be okey in both directions.

In musescore the note input works, but I cannot play anything back to the Clavinova. Do I need a special cable other than the simple USB connection?

I attached a screenshot of my I/O settings.

Thanks for any suggestion

Playback directly via MIDI is currently unsupported in MuseScore.

It is possible to do via Jackctl on Windows & Linux, but I don't know if there is an equivalent for Mac.

Jack is available on Mac OSx and it's unclear why MuseScore does not work with it in my setup. In your case you
might want to try it and switch on "Use Jack Midi for Output".

My setup is:
* Mac OS X 10.7.5
* Musescore 1.3 Revision 5702
* JackOSX.0.90b13
* JACK Audio Connection Kit - Qt GUI Interface Version: 0.3.6 Build: Oct 29 2010 10:55:21
Switched on "Use Jack Midi for Output".
MuseScore does not show as a readable client in the Midi tab of qjackctl / JACK Audio Connection Kit
This is very unfortunate since it would be just the feature I have been looking for now for over two years.

There are a couple of threads around regarding this from a guy who is actively using MuseScore via Jack to LinuxSampler for rendering scores to audio,

I believe he has also written a tutorial for this.

I search of the forums may throw this up.
