External Midi Input & Output Won't Work...

• Jun 11, 2013 - 03:04

Hi, I am trying to use Musescore with a Yamaha P-80 Digital Piano connected to a Windows 7 computer via a Yamaha UX-16 USB midi interface. I have the appropriate 64-bit interface driver installed. I have midi turned on in the program. I have have selected this device in the program's options 'options' and ticked the use midi output box. My instrument is set the broadcast on Channel 1 and listen on all channels. So everything should work fine..... but it doesn't! Musescore will neither receive input from nor output to my midi interface!??? I just get NOTHING!!! I know there is nothing wrong with my interface or digital piano because they work just fine with other software like Cakewalk Sonar. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone suggest what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ok... the mystery deepens. If I turn on Note Entry Mode AND I turn OFF Midi Jack output in I/O settings, I can input notes from my digital piano but I shouldn't have to turn off the output to allow input and also it still seems no matter what settings I have on or off, I can't make the score play back through the piano!?? That is to say, output never seems to work under any circumstances. :-/

In case you aren't aware, MuseScore doesn't do MIDI output. You may be able to use a special program called "JACK" to configure things so that you get that result, but normally, you'd just MuseScore's own synthesis engine. The default sounds are so-so, but if you install one of the better ones, like say FluidR3 (see SoundFont in the manual), you should be more than happy with the results. There are also other soundfonts available just for piano that are even better.,
