Possible translation bug - some translated strings do not appear

• Jul 29, 2009 - 09:06

It seems some of the translated strings are not being applied, instead showing the original. I am quite sure the translated strings exist in the .qm file (self-built). I have not been able to get debugging working on my machine, so it is hard to figure out exactly what is wrong, but it is easy to find the places in the code where the text is referenced.

So far I have seen this the following places (with the Norwegian translation)

  • Right-click on title text. The context menu items are all translated, except "Text Properties...". Expected to have the text "Egenskaper for tekst..." which is in the translation. This seems to apply to all text objects.
  • Right-click on a dynamics text (e.g. "p dolce cantabile"). Menu items are all translated, except the following 2:
    • "Midi Properties..." - expected: "Egenskaper for midi..."
    • "Text Properties..." - expected: "Egenskaper for tekst..."
  • Right-click on an articulation symbol (e.g. tenuto). Menu items are fine, except "Articulation properties..." - expected "Egenskaper for artikulasjon...".
  • Right-click on a tempo marking (e.g. "Allegro"). Menu items are fine, except "Tempo properties..." - expected "Egenskaper for tempo...".

Where MuseScore pulls strings for right-click text isn't where you always expect. I think (from the top of my head - i'm at work) for these items its pulled from the sections in the translation file labeled "base" such as Articulation Base and Tempo Base.

Hi Raymond,

I believe these are issues for Mac only and are related with QT. I might be wrong but you can also see it when hovering over toolbar and checking the tooltips: the reserved space isn't always sufficient. Perhaps it has to do with the font and QT on mac not able to calculate the right space.

If this comment is not related at all with the issue you mentioned, could you provide a screenshot perhaps?
Thanks.

At least I spotted this phenomenon in, for example, "Text Properties..." and certain sporadic dialogue boxes (where the entire dialogue box is still in English, in spite of the fact that the needed translation is there).

The issue with missing translations also occurs in the Articulations/Ornaments palette. All strings are translated in the .ts file, but they do not appear in the tooltips.
