Simple two-measure volta for two instruments, not working in 1.3

• Sep 16, 2013 - 23:40

This problem is driving me crazy. I have a simple score I have just begun with only two instruments to this point. I wrote the first instrument part with a first ending and a second ending (two measures long and yes, I used the Shift-right arrow to set the length). That repeat worked perfectly. I then added a second instrument and started it's part, and duplicated the first and second ending. No matter what I do, the second one added (Tenor Sax) does not repeat. When it hits its volta, it immediately repeats back to the repeat sign.

If I remove all voltas, both parts play through and then repeat (of course, the second time through they get confused, which I expected). But, if I add back the voltas, I get the same erroneous behavior. I have tried removing them, saving and reopening a new session and re-doing the voltas - same results. I saved the score without the voltas, up graded to 1.3, opened the file, added the voltas, same result.

I have attached the file if anyone can look it over and help me see what is going on. The Tenor Sax part only goes up to that problem. I've quit writing until I can resolve this. It is driving me nuts. I have written other scores with 5 and 6 instruments and the voltas never gave me this problem. What am I overlooking.

Thanks for helping!

Frank

Voltas should be added to the top staff in the score and that staff only in the score. They automatically show on all extracted parts. You have yours on both parts in some places, bottom staff only in others.

This is the repeat bar of the measure 40 which, in this configuration, creates dysfunction.
- Either this is a mistake and just delete
- Or replace it with a DS.

See my fix :

Note that in general and by convention voltas should be placed on the first staff of the system ( they are best seen ;) even if it is empty and only the latter.

NB : It is possible that this is not how you would like to perform the repetitions between measures 23 and 40 (I do not know your intentions). I reminds that by convention repetitions bars are not replayed after a recovery by Segno and this version of MuseScore is not very much at ease with complex repeats, it may be not possible to obtain the result desired.

I appreciate your time in working with my file. It works perfectly. Actually the repeat from 20 back to 9 was my only issue. I abandoned working out the rest of the score until I had that resolved. You resolved it. Now I can move ahead.

Again, thanks for the help!
