Lyrics of repeats

• Jul 5, 2017 - 09:06

My problem is how to write lyrics of repeats. I know how to do it when it is in the first verse. The lyrics of a repeat are below the first one (DECG in my sketchy example). But how do I indicate that same in the second and possible subsequent verses. So how do I mark that STUV part? I Hope you understand my problem and thank you for your advice in advance.

It depends how you want to present your song.

If every verse uses the same music, then I would do as you have in your example; write out the lyrics of the first verse under the music with the repeated music with it's second set of lyrics as you have done. I then write subsequent verses underneath the music as in your example. This is widespread in song books.

However if you want to write every verse underneath the music, I would write out the repeated section again rather than use repeat bar marks. (It's easy enough to copy and paste in the relevant section so doesn't require much extra effort.) You can then write out the lyrics for each verse on one line. I've edited your original example to show what I mean.

I'm sure there are ways to achieve what you were originally asking but it seems to me that the resultant score will be messy and it will be difficult for singers and instrumentalists to follow.
