cubase 7 and muscore

• Oct 18, 2013 - 03:00

hi guys,

just gave muscore a try using while using Cubase 7(Win7) and it seemsas though I have to use either or,whichever one I start first controls my midi keyboard, if I start muscore first it's fine but then I have no keyboard in cubase and vice versa. Any ideas? I was hoping to use it as a score editor , I can;t get with the in cubase.

thanks,

G

ps
on my Mac I can use muscore and Cubase 7 simultaneously.

No idea if it's possible to get Cubase and MuseScore to communicate with the keybaird simultaneously, but if you have to choose, it seems obvous to me: use the keyboard with Cubase. MuseScore really doesn't gain much from MIDI I/O. Input is performed at least as efficiently with your computer keyboard, and output is fine using MuseScore's internal synth, particularly if you install a good Soundfont .

ISTR that MuseScore grabs the particular MIDI interface you have chosen in Preferences and then monopolises it, assuming you are using Portaudio MIDI.

It is possible, however, that you may be able to use both together using Jack, which has the ability to connect MIDI devices together.

Like Marc, I'm not sure of the value of this - there are no real benefits from inputting music to MuseScore from a MIDI keyboard. Using a standard computer computer is as fast and efficient IMO.

If, however, you are wanting to use your keyboard sounds with MuseScore, then Jack is definitely the way forward.

I've set this up on Ubuntu Studio, but not on Windows, so I'm not sure how easy this is, but if you care to experiment, please let the community know your results :)
