Linked Staves and Chord Names

• Nov 9, 2013 - 07:01

In the recent nightly build (Nov. 7, 2013), chord names are applied to both of the linked staves. This was not the case back in September. Is this behavior intended? It seems a bit redundant. Or am I missing something?

Edit: One of the linked staff is a guitar tab. The other is standard notation.

What do others think about this? Should chord symbols not display on linked staves? Should this be an option set in staff properties, or perhaps in staff type?

I'm not quite clear what is being asked.
I'm familiar with linked staffs in piano parts and also say three or four instruments linking their staffs.
I can't see where there would be room to fit chord symbols in such a situation, apart from on the very top of the linked staffs.

I think you are confused about what linked staves are. Sounds like you are talking about ordinary staves that happen to be connected with brackets. That's not what this about. Linked staves are a new feature for 2.0 that wouldn't normally be used for piano. The main use here is for guitar, where you'd have one staff displaying the music in standard notation and another displaying the exact same music in tablature. They are linked in that any changes made to one staff automatically affect the other as well.

So the question is, if you have two staves for the exact same guitar part - one in standard notation, the other duplicating this in tablature - should chord symbols appear above both staves? I am really not familiar with this style of notation so I have no idea what's really expected. But it would indeed seem to make sense that you'd only want the chord symbols to appear once. Similar issue comes up, I guess, for other element types like staff text, dynamics, etc.
