Here is the voice 2 problem
Voice 1
1/4 rest 1/8 d beamed to 1/8 d tied to 1/8 d 1/4 e 1/8 d = 1
50 4d 4d tied to 4d 5e 4d = 1/4 plus3 by 1/8 plus 1/4 plus 1/8 = 1
They don't push me
Voice 2
1/8 rest 1/8 e 1/8 d (shared with voice 1) 1/8 d 1/4 e 1/4 d = 4 by 1/8 plus 2 by 1/4 = 1
40 4e 4d (shared with voice 1) 4d 4d 5e = 4 by 1/8 plus 2 by 1/4 = 1

exactly so - what was the magic because I don't have it with the incantation I used!

No magic involved, for voice 2 lyrics select the 1st voice 2 note, press Ctrl-L (just like you'd do for voice 1 too), then press return to get into the 2nd line (maybe this is the magic?), then enter the lyrics normally

Excellent; I'll do that. When I'm done, how do I get the second verse notes to go smaller? Is this the notehead editor?

Selecr and use the 'Small' Checkbox in the Inspector, for the Note or the chord:

Noteheads are no longer shared then though
