entering a synalepha in lyrics

The local handbook tells me that I can
"In the Text Toolbar, hit F2 to
open the Text Symbols Palette"
where the synalepha is.
I can;t find a Text Toolbar or a Text Symbols Palette.
please help.

You have to be in text edit mode. That is, first hit Ctrl+L to start entering lyrics. Then the toolbar appears (bottom of screen) and F2 becomes enabled.

In the text toolbar, click on the keyboard icon, or hit F2 to open the Text Symbols palette. The synalepha is the 4th from the end. Notice that the ties is evenly centered between the two vowels if you have inserted two spaces and the synalepha after the first.
Note that not all fonts include the synalepha character. To see which fonts on your computer support the synalepha, see fontlist . (Look for any font that shows a tie between "a" and "e" instead of a blank rectangle).
