Simplfying MIDI notation input

• Aug 1, 2017 - 13:01

Please excuse in advance a question from a sixty-five year old newbie to music notation. After being pretty much intimidated by Finale and Sibelius I found that I could create some very clean viola parts in MuseScore version 2.1. The problem is that it takes far too long to enter the data. I realize that will improve over time but I decided to order a MIDI controller which will arrive tomorrow-in this case a Nektar Impact LX-49-to speed up things a bit.

So here is the question: is it possible to program (is the proper term 'mapping') note values and/or time signatures into the Nektar to enable shortcuts for entry into MuseScore, or do I have to use the mouse or computer keyboard to change those values? If I can do this what is the procedure?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

Yes, you can map durations to MIDI keys. Go to Edit / Preferences / I/O and you'll see the place to do it, hopefully it's reasonably self-explanatory. Basically, hit the record button next to the command you wish to cutomize, hit a key, and now it's programmed.
