Midi keyboard entry not working

• Apr 3, 2014 - 13:50

I am using MS 1.3 on Win 7. I have a midi keyboard connected. I have the speaker, midi and note entry buttons pressed. I can hear the keyboard note but it does not appear on the screen. I am using midi-ox to check my midi setup and it looks good. In edit/preferences/i/o choose portmidi input interface is greyed out.

What's your cable hookup from the midi keyboard to the computer - midi/usb? usb/usb? audio jacks? driver needed/installed?
Also, is the 'Enable MIDI Input' selected in the MuseScore toolbar?
Are you familiar with the standard computer keyboard note entry - i.e. click on a rest first, then 'N' for note entry mode?
See handbook:

for midi note entry

I recently purchased the iRig Keys 25 from Guitar Center. I tried again and again to make this Midi keyboard work with Muse, but had only one success without being able to repeat that result. I was prepared to return it to the store and try another.

After extensive readings on the forums, and trial and error, I finally found one post that said connect the Midi keyboard BEFORE starting MuseScore. All the settings in Preferences are default at this time.

MAGIC!! Doing this fixed the aggravation I was having. I had installed another program that worked, but was not nearly as user-friendly as MuseScore is. This is by far the best one I have found for writing the sheet music.
