Set default TEXT font on score creation

• Apr 5, 2014 - 16:12

Often, we use custom fonts(i.e. not standard font and not museJazz).
One has to change every elements text manually, maybe it would be possible to have a standard text font in the "new score" wizard.

I would not encourage this. Text fonts are not embedded in score files and so a MuseScore file will not look the same on a different computer without the font installed. In consequence, I think it's bad idea to make it easy to change the default font of all the texts for a system font.

I don't think I'd favor cluttering the Create New Score wizard with an option most people would never use. But it should be a very simple matter to create a plugin that goes in to a score after it has been created and replace the font face in all relevant text styles - assuming the plugin framework is now sufficiently rich to allow this. I think it might be?

BTW, you can already save a style, and even set that style to be the default. So if you have a favorite text font, then even without a plugin, you only have to go through the trouble of manually changing the fonts once and then you're done forever (or until the next major release of MuseScore that breaks style files, anyhow).

As I already said, once you define a style, you can set it to be the default for all new scores via Preferences. Or you could save it as a template. Either way, it's a set-it-once-and-forget-it thing; you wouldn't have to do anything special on each score after that.

OK, but how often it is it that one really needs to globally change all fonts for a score, to something other than one's personal favorite font? I mean really, this can't happen often for most people - if at all. And in any event, the plugin idea I also mentionined in my earlier response should do the trick if you really do need this.
