Sound Fonts

• Apr 7, 2014 - 03:55

Hi,
I am new to MuseScore. I am working with the Sound Fonts TimGM6mb.sf2 and I found the only instrument to provide high quality sound is the flute. All others sound mechanical and very far from the natural instrument. Is there anything in my computer that determines the quality of the sound fonts and can be changed to improve the sounds?
Thanks,

Basically Snan, there is always a trade-off between soundfont size and quality.

If you want to have good quality instrument sounds, then you need to have soundfonts which use a sample every few notes for each instrument, and/or different sample sets for different velocity layers. This obviously increases the size!

There are many many soundfonts out there if you look for them. You can download the Fluid R3 soundfont direct from MuseScore: http://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont

You can also find a list here: http://musescore.org/en/handbook/soundfont

and here: http://hammersound.net/cgi-bin/soundlink.pl

Hope that's enough to get you started :)

Using Google will help you to find many more :)
